FALSE WITNESS

This section is aimed at producers looking for a fast, innovative DoP who can think on his feet. The time and cost it took to get these shots in the can will probably surprise you. Having a degree in Fine Art adds depth to everything I do which means you get more for your money. I was also agency press photographer for 15 years so I am great under pressure.

BACKTRACK

We made Backtrack in 2013. It started off as a short horror film but it grew into a feature. We attached Julian Glover, the baddie from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and the cinematography was all heart and no lights (three 800w Reds and one borrowed 2k tungsten fresnel). I am so proud of our ambition and what we managed to achieved with so little. It was shown on Netflix and has been seen all over the world.

ABOUT

My name is Haydn West and I am an emerging DoP based in East Sussex, UK.

Since 2013 I have worked on four feature films as director of photography. My approach is informed by 15 years in press photography covering entertainment, sport, politics and conflict. My attitude towards cinematography is to make a simple yet bold statement. Keep the tempo high and go for your shots.

A DoP must bring leadership and innovation to the production's visual style but I find the relationships formed on set to be equally important.

If we meet hopefully you'll find me intelligent, articulate and humorous with a good grasp of world events.
